"Fryrender candle " by Isaac Mas
Hi people, in this tutorial I will show you how I have done my latest personal work: a realistic flame, and a candle with sss using 3DSMax and FRYRENDER

Reference images
These images will serve us as a start point.

Modeling
We will begin with the modeling of the flame

Start with a box and add some height segments

Convert to Editable Poly and adjust the mesh like this

Apply meshsmooth modifier with 1 interation

Now duplicate the object and put the copy inside the first object. It is very important that the two objects have the same pivot point and they are in the same position, if not the next step won't work fine.

We apply strech and bend modifiers to one of the objects and instance the modifiers for the other object

For the candle, start with a cylinder, convert to Editable Poly, and deform the mesh with paint deformation. Then add the candle thread.
Materials

Lighting
To control the light of the scene I have used a FRYRENDER object modifier for every object that emits light. And two lateral planes to iluminate the scene.

Render
Finally, adjust the emitter values using layer blending. If you want to optimize the render memory for a big scene, you can attach the flames and candle thread with one object and control with one layer, but remember to adjust previously the power and the colors of this emitters.

You can add some glare effects to make the flame more realistic.
This is all, I hope it will be useful to you
